GAINESVILLE, Fla. (12/13/02) – Atlantic.Net, Florida’s largest privately held Internet service provider, today announced an open invitation to Gainesville-area residents to be among the first to try the company’s new residential DSL service, a high-speed Internet access offering for the home. Only the first 50 qualified households will get to participate in Atlantic.Net’s DSL “beta test,” a month-long trial period that enables a select group to try out the product before its release to the general public.

Atlantic.Net DSL features speeds up to 2.3 Mbps — about 70 times faster than dial-up. The high-speed connection enables users to download Web pages faster, send large files and photos via e-mail and access rich content such as videos, games and music. When the product debuts in February 2003, service plans will range from $24.95 to $34.95 per month. However, during the trial period beta testers will enjoy the fastest speed available at the lowest rate.

“Eight years ago, we were one of Gainesville’s first Internet service providers, bringing dial-up into the homes of local residents here and throughout North Central Florida,” said Marty Puranik, president, cofounder and CEO of Atlantic.Net. “It seems only natural for us to introduce our new DSL offering right here in our hometown, so our neighbors have the first chance to enjoy affordable high-speed Internet access.”

Other standard features of Atlantic.Net DSL and dial-up accounts include 10 e-mail addresses, 15MB of personal Web space, a monthly newsletter and 24/7 toll-free technical support. Last month, Atlantic.Net announced another new member benefit called “SpamScope,” a tool that filters out unwanted e-mail messages such as advertisements, hoaxes and adult content.
